The team of research and knowledge transfer to the public and private sector in the area of Commercial Law at the University of Alicante is a research group recognized nationally and internationally for its high degree of specialization in Intellectual Property: Trademarks, Patents, Designs, Geographical Indications, Plant Varieties, Copyright, Competition Law, New Technologies Law related to the 4th Industrial Revolution, in particular the environment of digital platforms and related matters.

Likewise, they have a wide specialization in Business Law, including experts in Contract Law, Corporate Law and Restructuring and Insolvency Law, among other matters pertaining to Commercial Law, of interest and relevance for both SMEs and large companies.

In this way, it is possible to provide training and comprehensive specialized advice, taking into consideration the different areas in which a company is involved. A company does not only depend on its IP rights, its success or survival requires advice that includes the different areas that affect it.

The Group is directed by Esperanza Gallego Sánchez, Professor of Commercial Law, Director of the Department of Commercial and Procedural Law of the University of Alicante and member of the Commercial Section of the General Codification Commission of the Ministry of Justice. She has more than 20 expert researchers in the different areas of Commercial Law. Many of them are specifically dedicated to Intellectual Property and Digital Innovation in the context of the promotion of economic and social progress and the defense of sustainability. The group is present in public and private international organizations and institutions. In this regard, the Director of the Master in Intellectual Property and Digital Innovation and Professor Pilar Montero García-Noblejas, author of numerous prestigious scientific publications on IP and member of the Committee of Experts on Digital Platforms of the European Union, stands out in this regard.

The members of the Department of Commercial Law of the University of Alicante prepare specialized reports and opinions on issues related to Intellectual Property, Competition Law and Digital Innovation.

Likewise, they participate as arbitrators and mediators as experts in intellectual property and digital innovation.

The research group led by Professor Esperanza Gallego has extensive experience in the preparation of reports for public and private entities on cutting-edge issues in Intellectual Property among which stand out for example: patents, technology transfer, differentiated quality schemes (designations of origin, geographical indications, traditional guaranteed specialties, optional quality terms…etc), individual trademarks, geographical marks, guarantee or certification marks, collective marks, plant varieties, plant patents, industrial designs, trade secrets, unfair competition, antitrust, distribution contracts, technology transfer contracts, licensing contracts and assignments of intellectual property rights, use of disruptive technologies, blockchain among other matters.
